Bilingual Course

Professor Xie Xijin, Director of the Chinese Education Research Center of the Faculty of Education of the University of Hong Kong, stated in “How to Cultivate Children’s Bilingual Ability” that children can learn two languages at the same time. According to the 2010 Hong Kong Student Bilingual Reading Ability Study, 26% of students’ English ability has reached international standards. English (as mother tongue) level; 12% of the students’ English scores surpassed the average score of Chinese and reached the native language level of Hong Kong, with good bilingual proficiency.

This kindergarten values the importance language development in students. In order to cultivate children’s interest in English, this kindergarten has hired two native English teachers to carry out optional activities with children for 1 hour every day. Teachers will use different methods to enhance children’s English application skills and help improve children’s English ability. The teaching strategy is as follows:

The kindergarten also attaches importance to children’s Putonghua expression and listening skills. Therefore, there is a Putonghua class every week. Each lesson lasts 20-25 minutes. Putonghua teachers will teach Putonghua vocabulary, sentences through reading, nursery rhymes and music, supplemented by school-based textbooks. This makes it convenient for parents and children to revise the material.
