Tropical Cyclones and Heavy Persistent Rain Arrangements for Kindergartens and Day Schools

When tropical cyclones, continuous heavy rain and thunderstorms affect Hong Kong, parents should pay attention to the following measures and listen to radio and television broadcasts to protect the safety of your children.

Actions to be taken by the school or parents due to weather conditions

When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 is issued

All schools, including kindergartens, are to operate as usual unless advised otherwise.

When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 is issued*

Classes of kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability and schools for children with intellectual disability are to be suspended. Other schools are to operate as usual unless advised otherwise.

When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Pre-No. 8 / No. 8 or above is issued

Classes of all schools are to be suspended.

When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is replaced by Signal No. 3

Classes of all kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability and schools for children with intellectual disability are to remain suspended.

When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 is replaced by Signal No. 1 or when all tropical cyclone signals are cancelled

All schools are to resume with the next session unless previous announcement has been made to the effect that classes will be suspended for the entire day.

AMBER

All schools, including kindergartens, are to operate as usual unless advised otherwise.

RED or BLACK

Classes of AM and whole-day schools are to be suspended all day.

When the Education Department announces the resumption of classes, and parents believe that the weather, roads or traffic in their area are still bad, they can decide for themselves whether to let your children go to school.

Under special circumstances, the Education Department may announce the suspension of schools in certain areas. Students living in these areas do not need to return to school for classes. If the school is located in the affected area, all students do not need to return to school for classes.

In the event of typhoons, rainstorms and special accidents that necessitate suspension of classes, the school will handle it under safe circumstances and will not call for further notice. In addition, the school will also arrange for students who take the school bus to go home as soon as possible if it is safe.
